Yes, I know I said I was back five days ago and I am! It's just taking me awhile. :) I am feeling really busy and bogged down right now for some reason....
I just received word from Grete that she received the placemat I made for her so now I can post the picture of it. I also made a coaster for her from some of the scraps.
Recently I participated in the sixth round of the Doll Quilt Swap on flickr. I was the lucky recipient of this beautiful quilt. My partner Sarah did a great job!
Here is the quilt I made. It is based upon this quilt. My partner had it listed as one of her favorites and I just knew that I was up for the challenge. I made my own paperpieced templates and then appliqued them to the quilt.
My daughter Selene would like to have one for her room, so I think I will make another one similar to it soon.

Last week was quite the busy week! I am finally able to post a picture of my Mom's finished quilt. The front is your basic 10" squares. I made the quilt based around this owl fabric that I purchased on Etsy. The rest of the fabric is from my stash.
Even though I knew I wanted to have the quilt completed by Tuesday afternoon when my Mom came out surgery, I lived on the edge and decided to try a zig zag design on the back of the quilt. What was I thinking?! This was my first time trying this pattern. I must say it took A LOT more time than I thought it would, but I like how it turned out and will have to at least make a baby quilt using the zig zag design.
Fieldtrip #2 ! A trip to the zoo with my sweet Selene. We went to the local zoo for their end of school fieldtrip. It was a lot of fun! Their were 97 kids and 52 parents. The teachers were pleased as punch with that ratio. We ran around the zoo and enjoyed each other and the animals.
The flamingos are new this year. We loved them! The one in the picture to the left of Selene stayed at the fence. He was really friendly and was studying us as much as we were studying him.
We also love the prairie dogs. Look at this little guy enjoying her lunch! Sweeet!!
Our day wasn't all play though. The kids had to do a little work along the way as well...
This week has been one of those crazy busy weeks. The girls only have a few more days of school and they are having fieldtrips, field days and parties. What fun!
Solana's first grade class went to our cities environmental center. We learned about water conservation. Meet "Kerplop." She taught us all about water.
I learned quite a bit myself. I had no idea how little of the earth's water is actually drinkable. I mean we do our part by taking short showers and using bath water to water our plants and in the past we have collected rain water, but just kind of went hand in hand with the recycling we do.
We also walked some of the trails on the property. There's my Solana bringing up the rear with her friend V. When I asked her why she was at the back of the line, she told me that she liked to take her time studying everything and if she was in the front, it went by too fast. Smart girl!
Take a look at this herb garden. It is built in a spiral shape. The spiral shape is intentional and so is the placement of the plants. This system is supposed to make the most of how the sun rises and sets. Isn't that neat?
As you can probably guess, there isn't a lot of sewing going on around here. Sighhh.....
I started this quilt at the beginning of the year, with the intentions of giving it to my Mom for her birthday. Well that came and went, so I thought I would make it for Mother's Day, which has also come and gone. Yep! That's the way it goes sometimes. LOL! Anyway, I am going to finish it up over the next couple of days as part of the "Spring to Finish Challenge." I didn't list it before, because I was just going to let it sit until I figured out what to add to it in terms of a border. Plus, there are only two weeks left in the challenge and how many things can I possibly finish in two weeks? Well, my Mom called me and told me that she would be having surgery on her shoulder this Tuesday and I think she needs something warm to come home to.
Right now I am off to figure out what type of border to add to it so I can piece that and hopefully be on my way to doing some sort of simple quilting pattern. I WILL have this completed by the time she comes out of surgery Tuesday afternoon even if I have to work on the binding in the waiting room!! How's that for determination?!

Yes! I'm joining in another swap!! They are a lot of fun and it allows me to meet talented quilters from all over the U.S. and other countries. Plus, Margaret is an excellent hostess. :) She is taking 50 swappers and still has spots left.
OK, I'm throwing my name into the hat for the bird fabric as well. I can't resist a good bird fabric. I've pretty much made it a goal to include birds in every quilt I make somehow.
