Countdown to the new year!

Hello everyone! I hope you had a great Christmas. We sure did. We had just the right amount of snow, Bill the girls and I enjoyed ourselves. It was great to see my sister and her family. We all had a really good time at my mom and dads. As my parents get older I value each of these Christmases more and more.

This year has gone so fast is unbelievable. I just don't know where the time went.  Do you? It seems that life has gone quite quickly since I graduated from high school in 1985.

I'm in the process of trying to finish up all my swaps this week so I can start the new year with a clean slate. I can't believe how far behind I got this year. It just seemed as if life got in the way over and over. I don't know where the time went. I don't know why I had so much laundry. I don't know why kids have so much homework in fifth grade. Oh and let's not forget how much homework my third-grader has. Did we have this much homework back in the 70s? I don't think so. Oh well that's goes. 2011 will be just as busy. I'm really looking forward to it.

I am calling this quilt "The Spinning Colorwheel Star."  It is inspired by a quilt I saw online.  Sorry, but I don't know where I saw it, so I can't give a link.  But what I can tell you is that I was intrigued by the design.  The original was done in solid colors with a black background  and had a pieced outer border.  I've seen spinning colorwheels before, but never a star.   I tried going online and googling a pattern for it, but couldn't find one so I had to make my own.  If someone knows the correct name for the pattern and can tell me where to find one, I would LOVE it!!  Let me just say that I felt like chasing the mailman to get it back after he took it today.  I decided to break in to my FMF stash.  I am trying to use what I have and not be such a hoarder when it comes to certain fabrics.  It took me FOREVER to figure out how to get this to work.  The first time I made it, I couldn't get the colors in the right sequence,  I had to add it to the scrap pile.    After more trial and error, I got the final quilt.   I am happy with how it turned out and  I hope my partner likes it!

Weekend Sewing Olympics List

1.  Hoop Up Patterns x 2 - One Saturday and one Sunday - I want to complete all five this week

I went for the Gold once again and finished putting the blocks together for Solana's string quilt. It took a little longer than I thought it would thanks to my cutie Ella. You can see her toes in the picture. She likes to sit on my lap while I am sewing and put her hands on mine while I am guiding the fabric under the presser foot. It is too cute and I must take a picture of it sometime. I have to enjoy these moments while they last right?

This weekend I hope to get a lot more accomplished. I think I might embroider all day tomorrow. Who needs clean clothing or anything else to eat other than peanut butter and jelly? I'm sure they won't mind right?

I like to make the girls a little something for each holiday. I decided to start this year off with some V-Day pillowcases. They were quick and easy to sew together! And YES! I made them in the nick of time for them to sleep on last night. :)

That's one thing crossed off my list!!

Here I am at the kitchen table with the crazy amount of WIPs I have going on. I think I suffer from sewing ADD because I jump from one project to another. LOL!

One of my flickr/blog friends had a great idea.  Laura came up with the"Sewing Olympics."  For the next two weeks, we will be going for the GOLD.  My events are as follows:

Work In Progress

Here is a look at one of my works in progress. It is a quilt for my middle daughter who is 8. She picked out the colors to go with her comforter and a favorite chair in her room. Now 56 blocks later, I need to sew them together and then figure out how I am going to quilt it.

The quilt was inspired by Film in the Fridges quilt. I love how she combined the black, white and color. I'm going to have to make one for myself in pink.

I am looking forward to knocking this one off of my list!
